Asus X409JA-EK591T Design

To begin with design, Vivobook 14 (X409JA-EK591T) comes with a silver colour minimal design of plastic frame, although it seems to be look like a metal body. Furthermore, it has sturdy structure, strong hinges and we'll build quality.

Going through physical looks, it comes in 2.6 x 32.5 x 2.3 cm form factor and 1.6kg weight. Its not an extremely lightweight laptop but overall, a good medium size laptop. One thing I want to mention that you need to use both hands to open the lid, although it is not a too heavy laptop. On the top of the lid, there is a large Asus branding as you can see on the image, which looks pretty good.

On the left side, there is a HDMI 1.4 port, one USB 3.1 type A port, a large heat exost vent and a USB type-C port for data transfer, but do note that it don't support charging and there are two USB 2.0 type A port, one 3.5mm audio jack, a SD card slot, a charging port and two LED indicator on the right side as well. Moving to the bottom, there is a large air intake vent at centre and two bottom firing speaker on the either side of the laptop.

Asus X409JA-EK591T review: Performance

As far as performance is concerned, Asus X409JA-EK591T is powered by Intel Core i5-1035G1 10th Generation processor, having clock speed 1GHz with turbo boost of 3.6GHz.

Moving on practical experience, this laptop is well performed in day to day use. It takes 7 to 8 seconds to boot up, thanks to 512GB SSD, which allow it to boot up in a short time. Additionally, after boot up it start from where it had ended. In basic software use, from working on word-document, presentation to excel, it will not disappoint you at all.

Furthermore on gaming aspect, Asus X409JA-EK591T can run all basic games in low and medium settings by using its Intel UHD integrated graphics. It can manage to get 45 to 55fps while playing GTA-V at lowest settings and result was almost similar kind of that in CS-GO and Valorant in different graphics settings.

Next, if I talk about professional software, I do noticed some frame drops while editing on 1080p video on premiere pro and some lags in blander.

However, I haven't found any issues with image editing on photoshop. One thing I would like to highlight that this laptop has only 45% NTSC colour accuracy so, it is not a good option for working with colour gamut but, there is not much option available at this price.

Asus X409JA-EK591T Display and sound

After opening up the lid, first thing I noticed is the 14 inch Fhd display. This LED display has narrow bazzels around it. On the top of the display there is a VGA webcam (without privacy shutter) and a small microphone beside the webcam.

By the way, I am not a fond of the display that has been used in this laptop. Asus has provided a 1920 x 1080p (FHD) resolution display of 200 nits maximum brightness and 45% NTSC colour accuracy. As a result, if are a professional editor you will not get accurate colour while working with colour grading on photo or video editing. Furthermore, viewing angle is not good enough, I have noticed some negative effect on around 30 degree angle. This may be an annoying matter if you want to watch movies with your friends and family. But, good thing is that, display is an anti glare display, means it wouldn't reflect much light.

On speaker side, my experience was not different from display. Asus has provided dual bottom firing speaker but sound is not loud enough. I have seen that on Amazon, customers are complaining about speaker quality. But, I think this is not a big issue, you can bear with it if you buy this laptop as you first laptop.

Keyboard and Trackpad

Decent keyboard and Trackpad in Asus Vivobook 14

Asus has provided a chiclet keyboard without num pad and it is obvious as considering a 14 inch laptop. Furthermore, there is a a metal frame beneath the keyboard to prevent the flex while typing. So, you’ll not experience any flexing even with rigorous typing. Typing experience was good, key travel was1.4mm, keys are well placed and I haven't found any issues on it.

Just below the keyboard, you will get a decent sized plastic trackpad having multi gestures support. Although it is responsive, it is slightly wobble and it produce a click sound.

For privacy, the trackpad includes a windows hello enable fingerprint reader just on the top right corner, which allow you to login to system with one click. It is fast and responsive. I haven't found any issue in it.

Battery backup & Charging

Asus X409JA-EK591T is fuel up by 32Wh Li-Ion battery. During my test, in normal use, I got around 4 to 5 hours of run time. Make note that, battery backup is subject of software use. If you run an intensive software, your battery will drain faster. However, 45W power adaptor is complementing the battery backup which can fully charge this machine within 1 hour.

Software

Farther moving to software, X409JA-EK591T is run on Windows 10 Home lifetime licensed version and ofcourse you can upgrade to Windows 11. Unfortunately, Asus haven't offered MS office on this laptop, but you can install it on yourself. There after, Asus includes bunch of software like Battery Health Charging, Tru2Life, Splendid, Function Key Lock, Wi-Fi Smart Connect for better experience. Overall, I like its software package but, little bit disappointed for missing ms office.

Upgradability

As I said earlier, Asus X409JA-EK591T comes with windows 10 but, this machine can support Windows 11 so, you can upgrade to windows 11 in future. This laptop comes in 8GB (2x 4GB) Dual Channel DDR4 RAM which you can upgrade to 16GB in future. Additionally, there is an extra 2.5-inch SATA Slot which hold upto 1TB SSD storage.

Pros

• Asus X409JA-EK591T support windows 11 and RAM, storage is upgradable.

• Good software package

• Windows hello enable fingerprint reader

• Decent quality keyboard

Cons

• Average quality Battery backup

• Average display and speak quality

• No pre-installed MS Office

• Bluetooth 4.2 support

Conclusion

Asus Vivobook 14 (X409JA-EK591T) comes in decent package of Fhd display, i5 processor, Intel UHD graphics and an average battery life. One good thing is asus is offering flexibility to upgrade this system in future and usually asus has gone service support. I don't have much complain about this laptop except its display quality.
